01 Sale or Fail

Purpose

As a new-to-market product, Nectar needed a way to explain what made the drink different without making every piece of content feel like a bland sales pitch. Sale or Fail became a recurring format that used real people and real reactions to introduce the product, communicate key differentiators and make discovery feel entertaining rather than promotional.

Sale or Fail was also designed to make the most of limited production resources early on. Sampling was already essential to getting Nectar into people’s hands, so we built a content system around those same interactions. That gave us a repeatable, low-cost & quick turn around posting pipeline without needing a separate shoot or added production budget each time we wanted content.

Approach

We built the series around a simple, repeatable premise that could evolve with the brand. Earlier on, episodes focused on product education and taste. As the brand became more recognizable, we leaned further into humor, personality and unexpected scenarios. We kept the production and editing intentionally simple and platform-native so the content felt natural to the viewer in-feed rather than an interruption. Keeping the core format recognizable gave us room to experiment without losing the identity and purpose of the series.

My Role

Strategy · Creative Direction · Concepting · Production · Casting · Filming · Editing · Posting · Captioning

I helped develop Sale or Fail from concept through execution. Shaping episode ideas, writing prompts and scripts, casting talent, directing shoots and editing each piece for social. As the format evolved, I also handled any production design, sourced props and materials, and created product education guides so talent could communicate Nectar’s key differentiators naturally on camera.

Selected Work

We used the format to turn Nectar's core product differentiators into natural conversation, communicating taste, ingredients and key selling points through genuine reactions rather than traditional advertising.

Product-Led

As we evolved, we pushed beyond product education and used Sale or Fail as a vehicle for humor, personality and brand voice. The familiar structure gave us room to experiment while keeping the content immediately recognizable.

Performance

Performance Snapshot

Sale or Fail became one of Nectar’s most dependable recurring formats, consistently giving the brand a way to generate reach while keeping the product at the center of the content. Its showed that product education could still perform like entertainment when the information was delivered through real people and genuine reactions. Not every format travels well across platforms, so its consistent ability to perform across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube made Sale or Fail especially valuable as a repeatable content system.

What Worked

The simple premise made the series instantly understandable, which mattered in a fast-moving feed. Viewers could recognize the setup within seconds, while real reactions gave each episode enough unpredictability to stay entertaining. That balance between familiarity and variation let us move between product education, taste, humor and personality-led concepts without asking the audience to relearn the format every time.

What we learned

Sale or Fail showed us the value of building repeatable formats instead of treating every post as a completely new idea. Once audiences understood the structure, we could evolve what happened inside it, using the same recognizable series to serve different goals as the brand grew.
